SAN JOSE (KRON) — The San Jose Police Department on Friday identified the two suspects that were arrested this week in connection with the Valentine’s Day homicide of security guard Manuel Zuniga.
On Wednesday, officers located and arrested 22-year-old Juan Hernandez and 20-year-old Richard Cruz in San Jose. The two suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on charges of murder.
No further info being released.
Zuniga, 34, was struck by two bullets after responding to a robbery reported at a liquor store on the 300 block of North Capitol Avenue at around 9:44 p.m. on Saturday. He later died at a local hospital.
Police say that Zuniga and another security guard were working at a restaurant next to the liquor store when they heard about the robbery. Gunshots rang out from a car that was seen leaving the scene.
A video that was released by liquor store’s owner shows the moment before Zuniga was gunned down.
In the video, a group of men are seen talking inside a liquor store near the scene of the shooting on the 300 block of North Capitol Avenue at around 9:44 p.m. The men leave the store but one of them returns and steals a display case filled with cigarillos.
Police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting. Investigators are canvassing the area for more information, police said. No suspects have been identified.
