EMERYVILLE (KRON) — Police are trying to reassure shoppers at an Emeryville Target that the location is safe.
This comes after a double shooting in the store’s parking lot on Monday night.
Gunfire erupted around 6 p.m. while the store and parking lot were full of shoppers.
Emeryville police detained one person, and two people remain in critical condition in the local hospital.
Police are not releasing the names at this time of those involved.
Here is a statement from the mayor:
“The events that transpired last night outside the Emeryville-Oakland Target were both tragic and highly unusual for our community. This is an open investigation but I am grateful to the Emeryville and Oakland Police Departments for their quick and professional response. At this time we are confident that the situation arose from a personal dispute between individuals. The dispute is not related to the retailer and the responding agencies secured public safety through their timely action.”
Here is the statement from police:
All subjects related to the shooting incident in the Target parking lot have been accounted for. Two subjects remain in critical condition at a local hospital and one subject is in custody. The Police Department is not releasing any names of involved subjects at this time, pending notification of family members.
The Police Department would like the public to know that this incident was not related to operations at the Target store, the incident occurred in the parking lot. The Emeryville Police Department would like to thank the members of the Oakland Police Department who responded and provided assistance throughout this incident.
