SAN DIEGO (AP) – A fugitive who evaded capture twice over the past week by slipping into the same Southern California storm drain has been taken into custody.

The U-T San Diego reports that Alejandro Gutierrez was apprehended at a San Ysidro motel Monday in connection with an April 2 shooting in Chula Vista. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police spotted Gutierrez on Thursday in Chula Vista but he fled and disappeared into a storm drain. The next day he was spotted in the same area and again slipped into the storm drain to evade escape.

Police searched the storm drain both times, but could not find him.
