SAN LEANDRO (KRON) — Police arrested a suspect Monday accused of hitting two San Leandro officers with a car while fleeing from the scene of a robbery.

On Sunday at 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a shoplifting incident that happened at the Safeway at 699 Lewelling Blvd., police said.

The officers tried to stop the suspect, but he ran to his car. He started to drive away and struck the officers as he was fleeing the area.

Both officers were taken to the hospital.

One of the officers was treated and released within a few hours.

The second officer is still in the hospital. Police said Monday afternoon that she is doing well and they are hoping she will be released soon.

Monday morning at 9 a.m., detectives located the suspect vehicle in Oakland and tried to stop the suspect, identified as 57-year-old Terry Gordon of Oakland.

Gordon failed to stop and led officers on a short pursuit before crashing into a parked car and being taken into custody without incident.

The suspect vehicle, a black 1998 Lexis ES300, also had damage consistent with last night’s incident, police said.

Gordon was positively identified as the suspect by both officers and the vehicle has also been identified as the vehicle used in the assault against the officers, police said.

Gordon was arrested for attempt murder and evading police and is being held at the Alameda County Jail in Dublin.Stay with KRON4 News for updatesWHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON:
