Police arrest man suspected of committing hate crime in Hercules

HERCULES (BCN) — Police arrested a Hercules man on Tuesday after he allegedly made repeated threatening and racist remarks to a realtor hosting an open house in the city on Sunday, police said.

Raymond Anciaux, 51, was arrested on suspicion of committing a hate crime, placing annoying phone calls and placing repeated annoying phone calls, Hercules police said.


A realtor, who is a black woman, was hosting an open house Sunday in the 100 block of O’Neil Circle, police said.

Between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., the realtor received several phone calls and voicemails from a man who allegedly made racist and sexist slurs and threatened to kill her, saying he didn’t want her in the neighborhood, police said.

Police traced the phone number to Anciaux and he was arrested at 2:42 p.m. Tuesday before being booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, police said.

His bail was set at $75,000, according to police.
