Two car burglars were arrested in San Mateo on Monday following multiple car break-ins the night before.
On Monday, police were patrolling the area of 2nd Avenue and South Bayshore Boulevard around 8:24 p.m. to combat a series of car burglaries. A number of utility trucks were targeted the night before which cost the victims more than $10,000.
The two suspects, identified as 21-year-old Angel Yanez Estrada and 20-year-old Eusebio Arenal Amador from Oakland, returned to San Mateo on Monday evening.
Earlier in the day, authorities located surveillance video from a home that caught the license plate of a silver Nissan Altima leaving the area after breaking into multiple trucks and targeting their toolboxes.
When officers spotted the silver Nissan Altima in the area, they conducted a stop to find Estrada and Arenal inside.
One of the men was on criminal probation for robbery, leading the officers to search the car to find a large amount of stolen property along with burglary tools.
Authorities arrested the men and were taken in for questioning. They have since been taken to San Mateo County Jail and booked for second-degree burglary, possession of stolen property, burglary tools, evading peace officers, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Law enforcement says they have been able to solve more crimes thanks to surveillance and license plate reader systems.
