Police activity on West Valley College campus

UPDATE: 9:40 a.m. Lockdown lifted on West Valley College campus.

SARATOGA (KRON) — The West Valley College campus has reopened following a lockdown Wednesday morning after reports of an armed suspect on campus.

After a shelter-in-place alert an investigation was launched which concluded that the reports were false, according to a college spokesman.

The campus, located at 14000 Fruitvale Ave. was placed on lockdown around 8 a.m.

The campus used its emergency alert system, which sends notifications by phone and text message, to advise the school community to stay off the campus, spokesman Scott Ludwig said.

The school tweeted:

“Responding to report of a subject with a gun in Language Arts area. Shelter in place, more information to follow.”

Officers gave the all-clear around 9:20 a.m. and summer session classes resumed.
