DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Police are actively searching for a man who they say stabbed an seven-year-old girl on a playground at a Dayton school.

Police tell WDTN-TV a stranger approached a girl who was playing on the swings at World of Wonder at Residence Park School and stabbed her. That child was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital and is now in critical condition.

Police began searching the area for the suspect with a K9 and talking to neighbors looking for any information they could in their efforts to find out who is responsible.

Dayton Public Schools tells WDTN-TV the child attacked during recess was a second grade student. The Director of School Innovation, David Lawrence told WDTN-TV the school went into lock-down immediately after the incident.

Police detectives and officers are looking for:

  • Black male with a light complexion
  • 5’8″-5’10″, medium build
  • 18-20 years old
  • Short hair
  • Blue or beige gym shorts
  • Tan or green hooded sweatshirt
  • Orange undershirt.

Investigators don’t know why this particular child was attacked. They say it is early i the investigation and they have a lot of work to do. According to police there was at least one teacher on the playground with the students at the time of the attack.

A parent we spoke with told us her children attend that school. “Crazy, it’s sickening because my two kids actually go here. So for it to happen at my kids’ school it’s sickening. It’s heartbreaking and I don’t understand why someone would come and do that to a second-grader,” the parent said.
