ANTIOCH, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 15-year-old is charged with murder and attempted murder after police in Tennessee say he killed his aunt and wounded his mother.
Matthew Bergman is accused of killing his aunt, 46-year-old Michelle Bergman, and injuring his mother, 37-year old Rebecca Bergman.
According to Metro police, Rebecca Bergman ran to a neighbor’s home for help at 7:35 p.m. Monday after she was stabbed in the back of her neck.
The neighbor called 911 and Metro officers arrived at the scene shortly after.
Authorities report that Matthew Bergman was in the kitchen of the home when they responded and was ordered to come to where the officers could see him.
He complied and was taken into custody without incident.
While clearing the home, police found Michelle Bergman dead in her bedroom.
The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
Police also located Michelle and Rebeca Bergman’s 67-year-old mother and two children, ages 2 years and 6 months.
Detectives were told that Michelle Bergman had adopted one of the children and was in the process of adopting the second. They were unharmed.
During an interview with police, Matthew Bergman admitted to killing his aunt and stabbing his mother.
He said the murder occurred at about 9 a.m. Monday.
Metro police said he cared for the two children during the day.
Rebecca Bergman came home at 5 p.m. and took a nap. When she inquired about her sister later in the evening, she said Matthew stabbed her in the back of the neck.
Matthew Bergman is believed to have had verbal disputes with his aunt Sunday and Monday.
