Plans to build 54-story skyscraper in Emeryville met with mixed reaction

The skyline in the East Bay could drastically change if the City of Emeryville approves a proposed skyscraper.

The 54-story building would be located off the off the Powell Street, just north of Ikea.

It would be the tallest building in the East Bay and offer 638 residential units.

The project also includes a new half-acre public park.

KRON4’s Gabe Slate spoke with some locals who are happy for the new housing building but worried it would make the East Bay commute worse.

A senior planner for the City of Emeryville says if the project is approved, it wouldn’t start for another two years.
