JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (KRON/AP) – A charter airplane went off a runway and into the St. Johns River Friday night near the Jacksonville, Florida airport.
The plane is a 737 passenger plane and had approximately 142 people on board.
The plane was traveling from the naval station at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba to north Florida, according to the Naval Air Station Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry confirmed all people on board are alive and accounted for.
According to First Coast News, the FAA says the plane was a Department of Defense contracted flight, not a commercial flight.
The sheriff’s office said the plane was in shallow water — but not submerged.
Officials didn’t immediately say what caused the plane to leave the runway.
