LIVERMORE (KRON) –A small plane crashed in a Livermore field Monday evening, killing the pilot.

Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration said that they got a report of control problems shortly after the single-engine Piper PA22 departed from the Livermore Municipal Airport around 9 p.m.

FAA officials think that there was only one person on board the plane when it crashed. That person has been identified as 75-year-old Michael Seal of Pleasanton.

The plane crashed in the south-east quadrant of North Livermore and Hartford avenues, triggering a grass fire. That’s about three miles northeast of the airport.

Officials with Alameda County Fire were not able to say if the plan itself caught on fire, or if it was just the vegetation.

Livermore resident Adam Sadowy, said “I heard the plane’s engine revving high, and then a thud. Few minutes later, sirens could be heard.”

The FAA and NTSP will investigate this plane crash
