FREMONT (KRON) — Encouraging news Tuesday night about a baby horse found injured and abandoned in an East Bay canyon.
It appears the colt, known as Valentine, will not need surgery. Rescued on Valentine’s Day in Fremont, the Colt was taken to UC Davis Tuesday, and after being examined, the young horse was diagnosed with a broken pelvis and a broken rib.
But fortunately, the broken pelvis bone is not weight bearing and should heal on its own without surgery.
He will have to rest in a stall for at least the next three months but should make a full recovery.
Fremont police posted several new pictures of the colt. Valentine is just days old and was found shivering after a couple days in that ravine.
Officers are investigating how the baby horse ended up there.
A GoFundMe account raised more than its goal of $10,000 in one day. Over $15,000 has been raised.
Fremont police said about that much money will be needed while Valentine is healing from his broken bones.
He will have to stay at UC Davis for at least the next two weeks.
