(KRON/BCN) — A person was struck and killed by an Amtrak Capitol Corridor train in Berkeley late Monday morning, an Amtrak spokeswoman said.
Train No. 535, traveling from Sacramento to San Jose, struck and killed an adult male trespasser near the Bancroft Way crossing shortly before noon, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.
The person was crossing the tracks when they were struck, officials said.
No injuries were reported to the 101 passengers and crew members on the train, Graham said.
The track is shut down in the area in both directions and the passengers are being taken by bus to the next stop on the route in Emeryville, where they will re-board another train, she said.
Initial reports indicate the person did not intentionally go into the path of the train, but the incident remains under investigation, Graham said.
