ALAMEDA (KRON) — Beachgoers are trashing Crown Memorial State Beach, turning it from Alameda’s breathtaking San Francisco Bay shoreline into a ghastly wasteland filled with used baby diapers and plastic bottles.
Even $250 fines aren’t enough to make litter bugs think twice about leaving their garbage. Trash is piling up faster than East Bay Regional Park District officials can clean it up.
The threat isn’t only to the views that surround the 2.5-mile beach. The trash could be threatening wildlife sanctuary and beachgoers that risk stepping on shards of aluminum beers cans.
