SAN MATEO COUNTY (KRON) — On the Peninsula, a mountain lion sighting has some residents on alert.

The animal was reported walking on Paul Scannel Drive near the San Mateo Youth Services Center.

It was spotted by a passerby just after 9 o’clock Sunday night. Then, the mountain lion ran off, heading towards the Highlands area.

And authorities have not seen it since. But if you do see a mountain lion, experts said do not approach it. The animals are most active during dawn, dusk or at night.

Some experts said the drought may also be the cause of increased animal sightings in the Bay Area.
