SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday night on Interstate Highway 280 in San Francisco, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP received calls at 10:54 p.m. of a pedestrian walking in the northbound lanes of I-280 at Monterey Boulevard, officials said.

Shortly after CHP received the calls, the pedestrian was struck by a car.

Upon arrival, officers found a man who sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

All but one lane of the freeway was shut down and a sig-alert was issued. The lanes reopened and the alert was cancelled at 1:53 a.m.

It’s unclear why the man was walking on the freeway.

The man’s identity has not yet been released.

The incident in under investigation by police.
