SAN JOSE (BCN) —  No one aboard a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light-rail vehicle that fatally struck a pedestrian this afternoon in San Jose suffered injuries, a VTA spokeswoman said.

The incident occurred when the vehicle collided with a pedestrian who was trespassing on a VTA path at about 3 p.m. at North Capitol Avenue and Gimelli Way, VTA spokeswoman Stacey Hendler Ross said.

The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released, was trapped under the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, Ross said.

None of the 12 passengers on the VTA vehicle suffered injuries. Ross said they were taken off the vehicle, interviewed and then sent on a bus to their destination.

A shuttle bus is taking VTA riders between the Alum Rock and Penitencia Creek stations, where service has been affected by the incident.

Ross was not able to provide an estimate on when service on the light-rail line will be restored.
