The Scott Police Department is applauding the work of a Westside Elementary resource officer who jumped into action when shots were near the school campus
At about 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 4, gunshots were fired less than 100 yards from where students were getting off buses, authorities said.
In under two minutes, Officer Joseph Celestine immediately locked down the entire campus and led students, school faculty and bus drivers from the area.
School Police Chief Chad Leger said Celestine, a 15-year law enforcement veteran, then assisted in the investigation and arrest of the shooting suspect.
