PALO ALTO — Palo Alto High School once again showcased their mathematical prowess on an international scale by attaining the highest honors in the International Mathematics Modeling Competition (IM2C), the second time this year they have represented the United States and received top ranking in an international mathematics contest.
Palo Alto High School’s BC Calculus Team were one of four teams that were recognized as “Outstanding” out of the 17 participating teams from around the world.
Also, just a few months prior, the team received an “Outstanding” recognition for their completion of the 17th Annual International High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling (HiMCM).
In the International Mathematics Modeling Competition, participants were given a problem that had to do with scheduling a film production, which mimicked real-life application of mathematics.
Team members Eric Foster, Andrew Lee, Kathryn Li, and Allison Zhang will head to Hong Kong in early July to receive their award from the international expert committee who judged the contest entries.
The team’s recognition in the International Mathematics Modeling Competition marks Palo Alto High School’s highest mathematical honor to date.
