PALO ALTO (KRON) — A Palo Alto man was arrested Sunday for attempted murder after allegedly setting fire to his former employer’s home while people where inside the residence, police said.
Police received a call at 6:19 a.m. Saturday from a resident reporting their garage and driveway was on fire.
Palo Alto firefighters arrived at the scene in the 3400 block of Kenneth Drive and located three residents at the home.
According to police, one of the residents, a woman in her 50s, used a hosed to extinguish the fire. She suffered a minor burn to her hand and was treated at the scene, police said.
Authorities immediately opened an arson investigation and were quickly able to identify Muhammad Hassan Khan, 26, who was allegedly a disgruntled former employee of one of the victims.
Police arrested Khan on Sunday at his home in the 500 block of Webster Street and booked him into the county jail on suspicion of arson of an inhabited dwelling and attempted murder.
No one else was reported injured in the fire.
The blaze caused moderate to major damage to the home’s garage.
