Pair arrested after traffic stop leads to discovery of false credit cards, counterfeit money

SAN CARLOS (BCN) — Two people were arrested in San Carlos Thursday after a traffic stop for an illegal lane change led to the discovery of drugs, weapons, counterfeit money and false credit cards in their possession, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said today.

At 11:06 p.m., deputies conducted the stop near the intersection of Industrial Road and Brittan Avenue, according to sheriff’s officials.

Deputies determined the vehicle’s driver, 28-year-old San Francisco resident David Greenman, was driving while under the influence of a narcotic and in possession of a concealed switchblade knife, sheriff’s officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies also found Greenman in possession of a variety of types of prescription pills, for which he did not have any prescriptions, according to sheriff’s officials.

Greenman also had several thousand dollars, of various denominations, stuffed inside his pockets, as well as dozens of high-value gift cards. Deputies determined that several of the bills in Greenman’s possession were counterfeit, sheriff’s officials said.

When deputies spoke with the vehicle’s passenger, 28-year-old San Francisco resident Rhiannon Dejong Cherf, she initially provided them with a false identity. Deputies, however, discovered her identity after searching her purse and also found several fictitious credit cards, sheriff’s officials said.

Additionally, deputies learned Cherf had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant out of San Francisco for trespassing and a felony warrant, also out of San Francisco, for grand theft, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies arrested Greenman on suspicion of identity theft, felony theft by access cards, possession of a credit card reader to defraud, possession of pills without a prescription, possession of counterfeit currency, driving while under the influence of illegal narcotics, driving on a suspended license, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a switchblade knife, according to sheriff’s officials.

Deputies arrested Cherf for providing false information, identity theft, being under the influence of a narcotic, as well as the two San Francisco warrants, sheriff’s officials said.

Both suspects were booked into San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility and remain in custody, each with a bail amount of $100,000, according to sheriff’s officials.
