Several cars have been vandalized in two East Bay cities, and now, police are trying to find the suspect involved in the crimes before they strike again.
Police believe paintball and pellet guns were used in the attacks.
The incidents happened in different neighborhoods, but it seems the paint was the same color at a number of the crime scenes–in San Lorenzo and San Leandro.
Within the last day, nearly a dozen vehicles have been hit with either pellet guns or paintball guns.
In San Leandro, police had at least half-dozen reports of vandalism in the Manor neighborhood.
KRON4 spoke to one victim, whose husband woke up to paintball damage on the side of his truck. But they were able to take it to the car wash and get most of it off.
However, there is still some damage left from the impact.
Over in San Lorenzo, one family had one of their car windows blown out.
The paint caused so much damage that they tell KRON4 it’s in the shop getting an entire paint job, some body work, and the window replaced.
They’re now concerned about the safety of their neighborhood, hoping this was a random act.
The owners of a car on Via Del Prado in San Lorenzo will have to replace three windows. They tell KRON4 they’re looking to shell out $1,000 for the fix.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office tells KRON4 a total of four cars were targeted in that area, each with around $1,000 worth of damage. They believe those cars were hit by pellet guns.
Witnesses describe the suspect vehicles as a black or dark-colored BMW SUV and a dark-colored sedan, possibly Honda or BMW.
There were also multiple occupants in each car, but it was hard to see any faces.
One victim is grateful her damage isn’t too bad.
“We were really lucky to get ours out,” victim Heide Cohetero said. “Other people weren’t as lucky. None of our windows were broken, although there’s still some paint up there.”
It hasn’t been confirmed by authorities.
But as the investigation continues, it seems these incidents may be related.
