PACIFICA (KRON) — The City of Pacifica and the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department announced Monday that they will bury the two whales that washed onto Sharp Park in April and May.

During a three week period, two dead whales washed on-shore, the first on APril 14th, and the second on May 5th.

The whales washed at Pacifica Beach, an area that is technically under the jurisdiction of the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department.

Originally, the city of San Francisco has decided to allow the whales to decompose. That decision was echoed as appropriate by the marine biologists studying the whales. However, because of the smells associated with the decaying whales, officials started to talk about different ways to dispose of the whale.

Late last week, the City of Pacifica and San Francisco’s Parks Department agreed to bury the whales. A timeline for the completion of that is still pending.
