An oxygen tanker truck has exploded and caught fire near the Santa Rosa Kaiser hospital, and the campus had been evacuated, firefighters said.

A leak has been plugged in the truck. The explosion happened in the parking lot.

The entire north campus (Old Redwood) has been evacuated.

Nearby Highway 101 was shut down in both directions but has since re-opened.

Old Redwood Highway was closed between Newman and Mendocino as is all of 101 between Bicentennial and River.

But the road has reopened.

There was a small fire, but it has been put out.

All evacuations have been lifted.

Here is a statement from Kaiser:

At approximately 2:30 this afternoon an explosion occurred involving a tanker truck in the parking lot of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Offices located on Old Redwood Hwy.

There were no injuries to patients or employees. Contrary to early reports, the tanker did not crash and there is no damage to the building.  We immediately alerted local fire and emergency response officials and proceeded to safely evacuate all patients and employees from our two medical office buildings.

There has been no impact to our Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa hospital, which is located about a mile away.

The office buildings are closed while the incident is resolved. We expect to reopen the two buildings tomorrow as usual.

Here is the status of the building for patients:

·    The medical offices at 3925 Old Redwood Highway (MOB 4) will be open and conducting normal operations on Thursday, July 19.
·    The medical offices at 3975 Old Redwood Highway (MOB 5) will remain closed on Thursday, July 19, for further inspections.
·    Kaiser Permanente is reaching out to patients who have appointments or ambulatory surgery scheduled at 3975 Old Redwood Highway (MOB 5) for Thursday, to reschedule or make alternative arrangements.
