ONLY ON KRON4: Vallejo father starts Christmas tradition after daughter’s death

VALLEJO (KRON)– For 19 years, one Vallejo father has opened his family’s home to the community in hopes of spreading some holiday cheer, but the tradition came out of tragedy.

Bob Taylor lost his oldest daughter in a tragic plane crash 19 years ago.


“She loved Christmass,” he said. ” I mean that was her favorite time of the year and she loved to decorate.”

Taylor said his two other daughters got the idea to decorate the home in their sister’s honor. The tradition started off small but has grown over the years.

“I just tell everybody that I want it to be bright enough that she can see it from heaven,” he said.

The family’s Christmas display goes far beyond bright lights and shiny decorations. It takes about three months to perfect and includes a real-life Santa that comes out every night.
