CONCORD (KRON) — Shoplifters attacked a store clerk in Concord, sending him to the hospital with major injuries.
A customer who tried to help was also badly hurt. Investigators showed KRON’s Haaziq Madyun exclusive video of what happened.
“That suspect in the red hat is going to drive him out of that door. Boom!” Concord police Cpl. Christopher Blakely said.
Security cameras captured a violent encounter involving a store clerk and a good samaritan taking on three shoplifters at a 7-Eleven convenience store on Monument Boulevard in Concord.
“What the clerk notices is that when the door opens, for the beer, that one of the suspects grabs a three-pack of beer and put that in his pants,” Blakely said.
Blakeley said this happened last Saturday at around 1:30 a.m.
“So, here come our 3 suspects,” he said. “They come together as a group, right here in the red hat, white shirt, and the Raiders hat, and they go directly back to the beer isle. The clerk is still helping these two at the front counter but he is keeping an eye on them. The clerk jumps over the counter because he already sees that one of the suspects concealed some beer under his clothing. As the two other suspects walk up to the counter, the clerk is calling the police and talking to one of our dispatchers now.”
But that is when the suspect in the red hat pushes the clerk outside of the door into the parking lot, where a fourth suspect gets involved in the violence.
“Our suspect in the flannel takes the beer and takes off,” Blakely said. “And then the good samaritan who is helping out gets hit with the beer. He falls to the ground. Our suspect there in the white hat you can see he was some merchandise concealed under his clothing. The two other suspects come back into the store, attack the clerk, then punch him multiple times to the body and head. They knock over a shelf display.”
What happened to the good samaritan?
“So, that’s our good samaritan, multiple kicks,” Blakely said. “I mean just look at that repeated kicks, punches to the head, to the body, to the face. They come out and said, ‘let’s go.’ They run to the car that is parked on Lacey Lane, and they get out of there.”
What was this all about? Blakely has a simple answer.
“Beer! All over beer,” he said.
Both the clerk and good samaritan were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police have limited descriptions of the four suspects. They were last seen driving away in a Chevy Yukon SUV.
