FREMONT (KRON) — Widely reported as having been discovered by fishermen, it turns out that the torso discovered near the Dumbarton Bridge was by an East Bay man and his friends who were out on a walk along the bay.

He spoke exclusively about his grim discovery with KRON’s Rob Fladeboe.

“Right when we got the bag open and saw like I said the skin, it’s like, ‘OK. Call the police. This is not…this is really suspicious.” the man said.

Wishing to remain anonymous, the man said he and a few buddies were out for a walk last Sunday evening not far from the Dumbarton fishing pier when they spotted a large plastic bag near the water’s edge.

“Looked peculiarly shaped, like it just looked like…it was tightly packed inside of the bag,” he said. “So we were curious and we started poking it with a stick, and it felt really solid.”

He said he then snapped a few photos with his phone, which he turned over to police. He said he and his pals remained at the scene until late Sunday night as police combed what he described as a crime scene.

And there was no doubt about what kind of crime they were investigating.

“And so we got curious,” he said. “So we started like cutting a little hole in the bag, and we noticed there was skin and hair and…then we noticed there was the bone sticking out to the side of it.”

He suspects it is only a matter of time before the police link his grim discovery to the missing person investigation in Brisbane in connection with the disappearance of Shelly Titchener.

At the same time, he hopes his discovery will somehow help the investigation into exactly how the remains got there and bring whoever is responsible to justice.
