LAKE COUNTY (KRON) — Monday marks the one-year anniversary of the devastating Valley Fire that destroyed more than 76,000 acres and killed four people.

The community of Lake County is still recovering after thousands of people were left homeless.

The fire caused $57 million in damage and burned 1,300 homes.

KRON4’s Jackie Sissel was sent to the fire the day it sparked.

Sissel remembers driving up to Lake County and seeing the smoke and ember all the way down in Santa Rosa. That’s when he realized just how disastrous the fire would be.

As Sissel drove up to the fire, hundreds of cars were trying to flee the fire.
