(KRON) — One suspect was taken into custody and another remains at large after a break-in at a building in Oakland’s Uptown area Tuesday morning, which led to a police standoff.
Police officers responded to a report of a burglar at a high-rise building on the 2100 block of Webster Street around 6 a.m.
The building was closed to the public and under renovation, according to police.
Witnesses told police that the two suspects broke into the building.
Officers surrounded the area and partially blocked some streets in the area, including Webster Street between 21st and 22nd Streets.
After police ordered the suspects to vacate the building multiple times, officers entered the building.
They found only one suspect after searching multiple floors.
The male suspect suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police did not clarify whether the injuries occurred during the burglary and standoff or while he was being taken into custody.
The suspect’s name has not been released.
The second burglar remains at large.
