UPDATE: Authorities reopen Highway 4 in Pittsburg after six hours of closure.

UPDATE: At approximately 2:57 p.m., Office of the Sheriff Dispatch received several 911 calls of a shooting that had occurred on Highway 4 Eastbound near Bailey Road.

Callers reported that an unknown vehicle apparently shot at another vehicle, which crashed into the center divide.

According to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, the driver appeared to be shot. The fire department and an ambulance responded and the driver was later pronounced deceased. He is not being identified at this time.

The investigation forced the closure of Highway 4 eastbound traffic.

The suspect is still outstanding. Anyone with any information on this case is asked to call the Office of the Sheriff at (925) 646-2441.

PITTSBURG (BCN) — Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a killing that took place this afternoon on state Highway 4 near San Marco Boulevard in Pittsburg, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

The first report of the incident came in to the California Highway Patrol at 2:57 p.m., according to the CHP. They originally reported that a gray sedan crashed into the center divider on eastbound Highway 4 east of San Marco Boulevard near Bailey Road.

There are multiple reports of extremely backed up traffic around the area.

CHP Officer William Ogilvie said CHP officials have no estimate of when the highway will reopen.
