SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – A missing 6-year-old girl is safe after Stockton Police found her Wednesday morning and arrested two suspects in the kidnapping.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports police canceled the Amber Alert for Ava Bar-Illan, who authorities say went missing in the early morning hours near San Jose.KIDNAPPED GIRL AND MOTHER REUNITED
Police took 39-year-old Maurice Cheadle and 35-year-old Dawn Atkisson into custody at a Stockton home about an hour and a half from San Jose.
Cheadle was arrested and charged with domestic violence and kidnapping.
Cheadle allegedly struck Ava’s mother before kidnapping the child.
Authorities decided not to charge Atkinsson, instead deciding to pass along all the information to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and leaving the decision up to them.
Ava is now safe and her mother is on her way to be reunited with her daughter.
Cheadle is in jail and is scheduled to be arraigned either Friday or Tuesday.
