GREENE TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A northern Trumbull County man is under arrest in connection with a fatal shooting.
Sheriff’s deputies say Ricky Green, 59, calmly called them to say he had shot his wife, 56-year-old Janell Green, with a shotgun at their home in the area of 2500 Wakefield Creek Road in Greene Township. The call to the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office was just before 11:15 p.m. Sunday.
In a 911 tape, Green can be heard telling a dispatcher that he shot his wife while she was sitting in a chair, because she had been unfaithful to him. He said he was trying to get a divorce from the woman but added that she “won’t (expletive) leave.”
Green requested an ambulance, but he said he was pretty sure the woman was dead. He told the dispatcher that he wouldn’t be touching the gun again when Trumbull County Sheriff’s deputies arrived.
Green is being held in the Trumbull County Jail on a murder charge, and he is currently on suicide watch. Charges are expected to be officially filed later this week, but Trumbull County Sheriff Tom Altiere said investigators have a good case against Green.
“If you’re a jury and you hear this 911 tape, I mean, there’s only one verdict you could give, but still, we want to cover all of our bases,” he said.
An autopsy on Janell is scheduled on Tuesday.
