GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Law enforcement from around the state are putting pedal to metal to honor fallen brothers and sisters in blue.
Officers with Team Greenville of “Law Enforcement United Ride For Hope” are making the annual journey to Washington, D.C. in honor of fallen heroes.
Team Greenville laid a wreath at the steps of the Greenville Police Department in memorial of fallen officers, Jason Campbell, Joseph Nobles and Jesse Mills, each of whom died in the line of duty.
Eight officers from the Greenville Police Department are biking the 300-mile trek from Greenville to our nation’s capital along-side Team Raleigh and Team Down East. The group plans to arrive in D.C. next Thursday on May 12th.
“Don’t want to let that sacrifice be in vain so we don’t allow it to be forgotten,” said Sergeant Cachelle Shean who is representing Team Greenville. “We do everything that we can to honor the sacrifice that our brothers and sisters have made.”
Team Greenville has already raised more than $12,000 to raise awareness of and provide monetary support to Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) and Officer Down Memorial Page (O.D.M.P.) The proceeds that go to Concerns of Police Survivors supports C.O.P.S. kids camp where children of fallen officers get to go to a free week-long camp each summer. This camp is a vital part of the healing process. To learn more about C.O.P.S. go to www.nationalcops.org and Officer Down Memorial Page, www.odmp.org.
“A hundred percent of the proceeds go to the children of fallen officers,” Sgt. Michael Broadwell said. “We help send those kids to camp where they can be around other kids that have lost parents in the line of duty.”
Simply Natural Creamery out of Ayden also donated 80 pints of chocolate milk to the bikers as they brave the arduous journey.
