SANTA ROSA (KRON) — Sheriff deputies apprehended a fleeing driving under the influence suspect in Santa Rosa Saturday morning, according to sheriff deputies.
CHP officers discovered a vehicle at 1:30 a.m. approaching them at a high rate of speed 80 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The officers then proceeded to stop the fast-moving vehicle at Laughlin Road, and when they approached the vehicle the driver told the officers he does not have his license on him. Instead the male driver gave the officers a verbal license number.
After officers were attempting to run the verbal license number, the driver sped away.
Avikash Dutt, 27, of Sebastopol was fleeing in his Ford Escape eastbound on River Road onto Mark West Springs Road.
Dutt proceeded to make a left turn but he ended up striking a curb, tree and metal post. Dutt then tried to flee the officers on foot, running north on Pacific Heights.
Officers were able to detain Dutt.
According to officers, Dutt was driving with a suspended license for a previous DUI, and on probation for multiple DUI and driving while suspended convictions. He was also found to have a no-bail warrant in Marin County for identity theft.
Officers booked Dutt for driving under the influence, reckless evasion of police and violation of probation and hit-and-run.
