NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police say the suspected gunman who shot an officer early Monday morning has been found dead.
Officer Terrance McBride was shot at the Cumberland Inn located at 150 West Trinity Lane around 5:20 a.m.
Police Chief Steve Anderson said there was “obvious drug activity” inside the motel room.
“As they were checking the bathroom, shots were fired toward them,” police spokeswoman Kristin Mumford said. “They didn’t see the individual and they returned fire and left the room.”
Officer McBride was shot in the shoulder and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a serious, but non-life threatening injury. He was last listed in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police said the suspected gunman is a parolee out of New York, though his official identity has not yet been released.
Chief Anderson added the man may have been involved in other recent Nashville crimes.
Police are also expected to speak with a woman who reportedly fled the motel room after allowing officers inside.
The investigation is ongoing. Additional information was not released.
