UNION CITY (BCN) — Officers were able to resolve a tense and hostile situation between a young man and his family last week in Union City, according to police.
Police said officers responded to reports of a young man acting out with his family at a residence, attempting to leave with his father’s car.
When officers arrived the young man was holding a large box cutter, and quickly approached the officers.
The man’s father attempted to intervene, when the young man held the box cutter to his own throat, police said.
After talking to the young man, an officer was able to convince him to drop the box cutter and de-escalated the situation.
Police said the young man and his family were safe in the end, and able to get the man help as a result of the confrontation.
