SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — An officer who was shot in San Francisco Friday night is expected to survive.
According to San Francisco police, around 8:15 p.m officers responded to Lakeshore Shopping Center in regards to a subject threatening people and causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located the subject on Everglade Drive and approached him. The subject then shot multiple shots, one striking an officer in the head.
After striking the officer with a bullet, the suspect fled on foot towards Sigmund Stern Grove.
The injured officer’s partner rendered emergency aid and called for backup.
A perimeter was setup around Stern Grove Park, and the suspect emerged from the bushes on Vicente Street and 28th Avenue. Officer pursued the suspect on foot, the chase then turned into an officer involved shooting. The suspect fell to the ground, and denied to cooperate with officers demands.
Police said, they used tactical forces such as a flash bang device to distract the suspect and take him into custody.
Both suspect and injured officer were transported to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for their injuries.
“Our thoughts are with our injured officer and his family,” said SFPD Interim Chief Toney Chaplin. “Our officers each day put their lives at risk to protect and serve San Francisco and we are grateful for the outpouring of support we saw Friday evening from San Franciscans who were concerned for the officer’s well-being.”
