Officer charged with intent to sell marijuana to appear in court

SAN JOSE (KRON) — A San Jose Police officer will be arraigned on felony drug sales in Santa Clara Superior Court today, according to prosecutors.

44-year-old Son Vu, a 21-year veteran officer, is charged with possessing drugs with intent to sell and maintaining an illegal stash in his rented storage locker, prosecutors say.

Vu is being held on $100,000 bail, according to the district attorney’s office. He will be arraigned on the charges today at the court in San Jose at 1:30 p.m., prosecutors said.

Vu has remained on paid administrative leave since his arrest last June 4 and will stay on the payroll until the criminal case is completed and police can review his situation administratively, police spokesman Officer Albert Morales said.

On June 3rd, the owner of the self-storage facility cut the locks on Vu’s rented unit after he failed to pay storage fees, and found more than 12 pounds of marijuana, as well as paraphernalia to grow the plant.

Investigators later determined that Vu had been renting the locker and during a search of his personal car recovered $5,700 in cash and a computer thumb drive containing digital files with information on police calls related to marijuana grow houses, prosecutors said.

If convicted, Vu faces up to three years and eight months in prison.
