OAKLAND (KRON) — Oakland Unified School District officials have announced a new deal for educators with a salary raise of more than 8 percent in hopes of stopping the teacher’s strike slated to begin tomorrow.
Three-thousand teachers are expected to strike, citing low wages and a lack of resources for Oakland students. Teachers are asking for a 12 percent raise and the district originally offered a raise of 5 percent.
At a news conference today, the district upped their offer to an 8.5 percent raise over the course of four years — though the Oakland Education Association say that’s still not enough to meet its demands.
The strike is expected begin at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, unless an agreement is reached sooner.
