OAKLAND (BCN) — A city-owned parking garage in downtown Oakland will close indefinitely Friday because of seismic instability, city officials said on Thursday.
The garage at 1414 Clay St., next to City Hall, was determined to be too unsafe to continue using after a recent assessment, according to the city. Friday will be the last day it will be available for parking.
Visitors to City Hall will have to use another parking option, such as the Dalziel Garage in the basement of 250 Frank Ogawa Plaza.
Resources like on-site security will be deployed from the Clay Street Garage to the Dalziel Garage, city officials said.
What will become of the 55-year-old Clay Street Garage now remains unclear. City staff will conduct a study to determine the best use of the site and provide a report to the City Council.
