OAKLAND (KRON)—The Oakland City Council approved two proposals Wednesday that will limit property owners’ ability to raise rent.
One measure will require landlords to petition for approval of any annual rent hike of more than 10 percent.
The other will limit the amount that property owners can charge their tenants for improvements to a building.
The city of Oakland is the fourth most expensive rental market in the nation.
Each proposal includes several tenant protections.
Both proposals will be on the November ballot this fall.
