OAKLAND (KRON) — In the midst of a sex scandal and the loss of three police chiefs, the Oakland Police Department will be delaying the police academy for a few months.

This is all to ensure that proper screening and training methods are in place at the department. The start of the class has been pushed from February to May at the earliest.

This will give the department time to review both hiring and recruiting practices.

Questions over those practices arose in the wake of police scandals that involve some officers who were hired in recent years.

The city will still continue with two other police academies that were already budgeted for this year. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
