OAKLAND (KRON) — Another Oakland police officer has been placed on administrative leave amid allegations of sexual misconduct involving police officers and a police dispatcher’s daughter, a story first reported by KRON.
Oakland Police Department officials made the announcement Sunday morning.
Former chief Sean Whent and two other officers have resigned in the wake of the scandal and two others remain on paid administrative leave.
The possible misconduct was uncovered when the department’s internal affairs division investigated the suicide of Officer Brendan O’Brien last September.
In a story first reported by KRON4, there is an investigation into allegations that several police officers used Facebook to hook up with an underage call girl, Celeste Guap. Mayor Libby Schaaf has called the allegations “disturbing” and could hurt efforts to build trust with the public.
That investigation centers around four Oakland police officers allegedly engaging in sexual activity with Guap.Statement from Oakland Police Department officials:
The Oakland Police Department can confirm that another officer has been placed on administrative leave as part of our ongoing investigation into the alleged sexual misconduct case involving Oakland police officers. The Internal Affairs Division will continue to investigate all of the misconduct allegations.
The Oakland Police Department is committed to transparency. However, a complete investigative process requires confidentiality in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation. For this reason, only those preliminary details that do not compromise the investigation can be released at this time.
The Oakland Police Department holds all employees accountable for their actions on and off duty. The Oakland Police Department will not tolerate misconduct of any kind from its employees. Ensuring internal investigations are swift, fair, and objective is our priority.
