Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf is yet again defending her actions after President Trump said she was obstructing justice when she warned the public of impending immigration raids.
“I just want to be clear to the president that I am not obstructing justice, I am seeking it,” Schaaf said Friday.
While at a roundtable discussion on Wednesday, Trump said he wanted to Department of Justice to look into the mayor’s actions.
“She advises thousands of people, ‘Get out the law enforcement is coming,’” Trump said. “To me, that’s obstruction of justice, and perhaps the Department of Justice can look into that, with respect to the mayor.”
Schaaf says she takes the president’s threats seriously but she will continue to speak up about what she believes is a broken immigration system.
“And for what I believe are lies, fear-mongering and racism coming out of this administration,” she added.
