Oakland Marriott hotel workers reach contract agreement to end strike

The Oakland Marriott City Center has reached an agreement with Marriott and will end the strike as of Saturday.

The group United Here! Local 2850 made this announcement in a tweet on Friday night.

This comes after the San Francisco Board of Supervisors held an emergency hearing inviting Marriott workers on strike to speak about their demands.

Organizers say the emergency hearing invited both Marriott workers on strike from the union and the Marriott CEO.

Union members say the CEO turned down the invitation.

Protesters say they’re feeling empowered.

United Here! Local 2 representative Anand Singh issued the following statement:

We’re in day 30, and the special hearing was a success. Goal was to have workers share their stories about why they’re striking and to enlist the City’s support in our fight. To a person, supervisors were very supportive and visibly moved. We also met with the Mayor who continues to support the campaign.”
