OAKLAND (KRON) — Oakland police on Thursday release new details into the shooting death of Davon Ellis, the 14-year-old boy who was shot and killed in his east Oakland neighborhood on Saturday.
According to Oakland police chief Sean Whent the person of interest has been identified, and is currently in custody for an incident unrelated to Ellis.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 3300 block of Brookdale Avenue around 7:50 p.m. on Saturday, according to Oakland police Officer Johnna Watson.
Police found Ellis suffering from a gunshot wound and he was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the Pop Warner football star and student at Oakland Tech was walking with a group of friends from a friend’s house to the store when he was shot.
