OAKLAND (KRON) – The Oakland city workers strike continued for a second day on Wednesday.

The workers are demanding a pay raise, which the City of Oakland says it cannot afford. The strike, which started on Tuesday, has impacted hundreds of operations

The services affected by the strike include street cleaning, parking enforcement, libraries, building inspectors, senior services, and some head start services.

Negotiation between the city and the union have been ongoing for months. The situation came to a head on Tuesday when, according to the union, the City of Oakland rejected a pair of proposals they put forth.

The city says they couldn’t act on the proposals until the Oakland City Council has a chance to review the others.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf says she’s eager to sit down with the union and resolve the issue but claims the strike is unlawful.WHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON:
