OAKLAND (KRON) — Former A’s Minor Leaguer Sean Murphy died unexpectedly Monday in Arizona, according to team officials. He was 27.

Details surrounding his death have not been released and no further information was given.

“The A’s are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Sean Murphy,” A’s executive vice president of baseball operations Billy Beane said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

According to MLB.com, Murphy was a 33rd-round draft pick in 2010 and spent six seasons in the Oakland minor league system. He last played in 2014, after an elbow injury ended his 2015 season preemptively.

In February, Murphy was suspended for the first 50 games of 2016 following a second positive drug test, for what MLB deems “drugs of abuse,” not performance enhancers.
