Bad news in Mexico is translating into bad news for some United States airlines; they’re trimming the number of flights to Mexico because of reports of higher crime and violence.

Several airlines have announced they’re scaling back flights to Mexico. The reason is fewer people want to go because of reports of escalating crime.

One example is that Mexico had a 16 percent hike in murders for the first half of the year. That broke the record for the already high homicide rate.

The Yucatan Peninsula, which includes resort spots like Cancun and Cozumel, saw homicide rates grow by 132 percent.

American, Delta, and United Airlines are all trimming their routes.

Although some budget airlines like Spirit were actually adding some capacity, another problem people have not forgotten is this time last year, the state department was warning tourists about tainted alcohol.

The problem apparently contributed to one death and many more robberies and assaults.
